26 April 2010

Nice long visit today, was totally shattered when I got home, left at 06.00 and was out for 3hrs 30mins, it was quite warm 12c, quite cloudy with sunny intervals, very little wind.

Blackcap was by the entrance but not a lot else, but this was the first of 9x Blackcaps, which I think is the highest count so far this month.

On the model boating lake 7x Mute Swans, the 2x Great Crested Grebes are still staying close to the nest despite failing to raise any young. Also the Domestic Greylag and White Farmyard Goose have had 5x Goslings which they have now brought out of the Nature Reserve and on to the boating lake.

2x Little Ringed Plover where on the grass verge, on the main lake another 9x Mute Swans, 26x Tufted Duck, 1x Shoveler and 4x Great Crested Grebe.

In the Nature Reserve, 4x Chiffchaff, 4x Willow Warbler and in the reedbed on the top pool a singing Reed Warbler which is the first of the year, and a male Reed Bunting, also 2x Jay flew over.

On the old sewage works, Chiffchaff, Willow Warblers, 4x Whitethroat, 2x Bullfinch and 1x Garden Warbler, with the Reed Warbler earlier this gave me two year ticks for the day.

The old gas works had a Grey Heron on the pool, Swallows on the wires and 2x Stock Doves, plus 2x Herring Gulls flying over.

Total species 47.
