01 May 2010

The start of a new month and you always want to get as many birds as possible to your monthly list, the day started very damp from heavy overnight rain, temp was 10c at 05.40, there was a very slight mist over the lake and no wind, later a slight breeze got up with sunny intervals through the cloud, by the time I got home it was 10.00.
Swifts where everywhere today esp over the lake with over 100+ skimming over the water and grass bank, on the model boating lake 2x Great Crested Grebe but no Mute Swans, they were all on the main lake with a count of 11, just 9x Tufted Duck and 1x Shoveler, a lone Little Ringed Plover flew across the lake, warblers where back up in numbers, Chiffchaff x6, Willow Warbler x6, Blackcap x6, Reed Warbler x2, Whitethroat had the biggest increase with at least 8 counted all on the old sewage works area and lastly 2x Garden Warbler.
Other birds of note was 1x Treecreeper going along the tree line of the main lake, 1x Reed Bunting and 2x Buzzards displaying over Bradwell Wood.

Total species seen was 43.
