08 May 2010

Was down this morning from 05.30 - 08.40, temp was 10c but felt a lot colder with the strong northeasterly breeze, a couple of light showers and total cloud coverage.
Not much on the model boating lake apart from 2x Great Crested Grebe and 21x young Canada Geese, on 'Wood Warbler' Avenue one each of Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff and Blackcap, on the grass verge and bank 5x Little Ringed Plover and on the main lake, 2x Great Crested Grebe, 16x Tufted Duck, 1x Shoveler (Sammy) and 5x Mute Swans a bit later decent numbers of Swift, Swallows, House Martins and a few Sand Martins, also 5x young Canada Geese.
In the Nature Reserve, a family of Long-tailed Tits are the first ones of the year, a couple of Chiffchaff were singing and a Whitethroat was along the back path, at least 3x Blackcaps and 2x Reed Warblers, the 2x Mute Swans are still in the reedbed, also 2x young Canada Geese.
On the old gas works and sewage works, 4x Shelduck flew over, they seemed to land on the main lake but there was no sign when we went back there later, 2x Chiffchaff, 1x Garden Warbler, 1x Willow Warbler, 3x Whitethroat & 3x Stock Doves were also present, over Bradwell Wood, a single Buzzard was seen along with 3x Sparrowhawks.
